With Summer's arrival also comes kittens. Read about some ways you can help during this busy season at Animal Services.

While kittens are born year round, there is an increase in kittens being born as the weather heats up. In 2019 Animal Services took in approximately sixteen-hundred cats and kittens. A little over a twelve-hundred of those cats and kittens were taken in during kitten season.

It is very important to spay and neuter your pets to prevent unwanted litters. Spaying and Neutering can also discourage some behavioral issues in cats such as marking or escaping.

If you have an open home and love to give, you can make a difference and help homeless cats and kittens in San Luis Obispo County! Continue to keep a close eye on the Animal Services adoption page to see what furry friends need new homes over the next few months.

During kitten season, a large number of sick and un-weened kittens also survive because of foster programs. Apply on our volunteer page to become a part of the foster program to care of kittens until they are old enough to go to their forever home.

You can also offer support to the shelter during kitten season by donating supplies from our online wish list.

Another great way to help during kitten season is to donate to the Guardian Angel Fund to help financially support the medical needs of our shelter animals. Donations can be sent by mail. Visit our website for more information.
