Author: Public Health Department
Date: 2/4/2019 3:47 PM

The County of San Luis Obispo Health Commission is currently recruiting for a volunteer member to serve on the commission.

The commission serves as an advisory board to the County Board of Supervisors and the Public Health Department on matters relating to health in the county. The commission consists of 11 volunteer appointees who are residents of San Luis Obispo County, including:

  • six consumer representatives
  • three direct providers of health care
  • two indirect providers of health care

The commission is currently accepting applications for one consumer representative. The deadline to apply is June 1, 2019.

"Serving on the Health Commission, for me, has been fascinating," said Health Commission Chairperson Mary Jean Sage. "Our public health systems are far more complex than we often realize, and the Health Commission provides an inside look at many of the factors shaping health in our county. At our meetings throughout the year, we touch on so many different factors that connect to health—it broadens your perspective. It's a meaningful and very interesting experience."

In addition to attending monthly meetings on the second Monday evening of every month, commissioners serve on committees and should be willing to spend 10 hours each month doing commission-related work.
