Aircraft and Vessel Property Statements Mailed by Assessor

County Assessor Tom Bordonaro mailed Aircraft and Vessel property statements to boat and aircraft owners on January 2, 2020. All Aircraft and Vessels (boats and watercraft) are subject to local property tax unless they are specifically exempted by law. Boat and aircraft owners are required to file annual statements regarding their property with the County Assessor.
All aircraft and vessels in San Luis Obispo County are subject to local property tax unless they are specifically exempt by law. All such personal property is assessed annually as of January 1st.
As an aircraft or vessel (boat or watercraft) owner, you must file specific property statements with the County Assessor. The Assessor mails the appropriate property statements to property owners in early January of each year.
Aircraft owners are required to file an Aircraft Property Statement, also referred to as BOE Form 577. The Aircraft Property Statement is due by February 15, 2020. If you have an aircraft of historical significance, you may file BOE Form 260-B, also known as the Claim for Exemption from Property Taxation of Aircraft of Historical Significance. Form 260-B is due in our office by February 15, 2020.
Owners of commercial vessels or larger pleasure craft valued at greater than $80,000 are required to file a Vessel Property Statement, also known as BOE Form 576-D. The Vessel Property Statement is due by April 1, 2020. Some commercial fishing vessels may be eligible to file BOE Form 576-E, the Affidavit for 4 Percent Assessment of Certain Vessels. Form 576-E is due in our office by February 15, 2020.
