Purpose |
To provide guidelines for when and how youth in CVA may be issued a guitar. |

Overview
Youth may be allowed to check out a guitar during their free time or at the discretion and availability of CVA staff
Specific Procedure
- Use of a guitar may be allowed during youth’s free time
- Youth may request to check out a guitar by asking staff verbally or in writing
- Prior to checking out a guitar, staff shall verify the youth has earned at least a 3 or better in the previous scoring block
- Staff shall utilize the Unit Checkout Form to document when a guitar has been checked out or in
- Guitars shall only be used up on the unit, unless otherwise approved by a Juvenile Services Officer III (JSOIII) or Supervising Deputy Probation Officer (SDPO)
- Staff have the authority to end a youth’s use of a guitar if the youth is mishandling the guitar or failing to obey staff directives
- Guitars shall be stored behind the CVA staff desk, when not in use
