County Statement re: Court Ruling on Oklahoma Parking Site

The County of San Luis Obispo's planned closure of the Oklahoma Parking Site was paused due to a limited Temporary Restraining Order.

San Luis Obispo, CA - Late on Friday, March 15, 2024, the U.S. District Court for the Central District of California issued a ruling in the case of San Luis Obispo County Homeless Union et al v. County of San Luis Obispo et al. The Court entered a limited Temporary Restraining Order requested by the Plaintiffs, which paused the County of San Luis Obispo’s planned closure for the Oklahoma Parking Site until March 29, 2024 at 4:20PM.

The County of San Luis Obispo maintains that the Oklahoma Parking Site was only intended to provide people with a temporary place to stay while they identified more suitable housing opportunities and was never envisioned to be a permanent location for people to live. Additionally, the County and other local homeless service providers have worked diligently to offer housing and shelter options to the 16 people that remain at the site as of March 14, 2024.

The County will continue to provide people at the site with access to the services and resources that will allow them to pursue safe and stable housing solutions. We are hopeful that those currently living at the Oklahoma Parking Site will take advantage of the various options and resources made available to them.
