Unemployment Rate for San Luis Obispo County saw a decrease in March 2025
The San Luis Obispo County Monthly Employment Report (March 2025) shows an increase in the civilian labor force, an increase in civilian employment, and a decrease in civilian unemployment.
Unemployment
The California Employment Development Department (EDD) reported the unemployment rate was 4.1% in March 2025, which is a decrease from the revised February 2025 rate. SLO County ranks as the 7th lowest Unemployment Rate in the state. The unadjusted Unemployment Rate in California was 5.3% and 4.2% in the nation during the same period.
Month-over Job Changes
The Government industry experienced the most job growth in this reporting period, adding 600 jobs. The Private Education and Health Services industry gained 100 jobs in March.
The Manufacturing, Information, Financial Activities, Professional and Business Services, Leisure and Hospitality, and Other Services industries saw no changes in job loss or growth during the month of March.
The Trade, Transportation, and Utilities industry reported the most losses with 100 for the same reporting period. The Mining, Logging, and Construction industry lost 100 jobs in March.
Total Farm experienced no change during the month of March.
During the same reporting period, San Luis Obispo County gained a total of 400 jobs.
Year-over Job Changes
The Government and Private Education and Health Services industries experienced the largest year-over change, adding 600 jobs each. The Manufacturing industry added 300 jobs over the past year.
The Information and Professional and Business Services industry reported no changes since the same time last year.
The Trade, Transportation, and Utilities industry experienced the most year-over loss, losing 900 jobs since this same reporting period in 2024. The Other Services industry experienced a decrease of 400 jobs over the past year. The Financial Activities industry lost 200 jobs over the past year and both the Mining, Logging, and Construction and Leisure and Hospitality industries experienced a year-over loss of 100 jobs each.
Total Farm experienced a year-over gain of 100 jobs.
Overall, employers in San Luis Obispo County lost 100 jobs over the past year.
