Superior Court Judge Jacqueline Duffy has sentenced Ignacio Palomar III (DOB 05/26/1978) to serve 40 years to life in state prison for the 2014 murder of an Arroyo Grande man

“This prosecution and sentence will serve as a sobering reminder of the devastation that can occur when anger outweighs self-restraint,” said District Attorney Dan Dow.  “We hope that it provides the friends and family of the victim with some level of closure and justice.”

On March 22, 2018, a San Luis Obispo County jury convicted Palomar of second degree murder (Penal Code 187 (a)), and found true allegations that Palomar had suffered two prior felony convictions under California’s Three Strikes Law.  The prosecution was based on Palomar striking the victim while outside of an Arroyo Grande bar in the fall of 2014.  The victim later died as a result of injuries sustained during the attack.

The case was prosecuted by Deputy District Attorney Charles Blair and investigated by the Arroyo Grande Police Department.
