On 12/20/2018, District Attorney Dan Dow announced that 42-year-old Carlo Alberto Fuentes Flores has been charged with the murder of Nancy Woodrum (62). The victim, Nancy Woodrum of Paso Robles, was a missing person, since her disappearance on May 5, 2018 until the defendant led investigators to her body on Tuesday.

Today, 12/20/2018, Carlo Alberto Fuentes Flores (DOB 05/27/1976) was charged with the murder of Nancy Woodrum.  Ms. Woodrum went missing from her Paso Robles home on May 5th, 2018, after which the San Luis Obispo County Sheriff’s Office conducted an extensive search for Nancy Woodrum.  The victim, who operated a hair salon and AirBnB, hired the defendant to paint her deck during the week leading up to her disappearance.

After being identified as a possible suspect in November, San Luis Obispo County Sheriff’s Detectives contacted Fuentes Flores for questioning on Tuesday, December 18, 2018.  After a lengthy interview, Mr. Fuentes Flores eventually led investigators to the victim’s remains in a secluded area off Highway 58 in a rural eastern part of the county.

“I am grateful for the excellent work by the Sheriff’s Office personnel who followed every lead in this case that led to solving the disappearance of Nancy Woodrum.  We are deeply saddened by the fact that she was not found alive and we send our heartfelt condolences to Nancy’s family,” said District Attorney Dan Dow.  “We are firmly committed to seeking justice for Nancy and her family and will vigorously and fairly pursue that end.”

Carlo Fuentes Flores will be arraigned in Department 1 of the Superior Court in San Luis Obispo on Friday, December 21, 2018.  He is in custody at the San Luis Obispo County Jail being held without bail. If the special circumstances are found true, the penalty for a defendant who is found guilty of murder in the first degree is death or imprisonment in the state prison for life without the possibility of parole.

The case was investigated by the San Luis Obispo County Sheriff’s Office with the assistance of the District Attorney’s Bureau of Investigation and is being prosecuted by Deputy District Attorney Christopher Peuvrelle.

It is important to note that a criminal complaint contains charges that must be proven in a court of law. Every defendant is presumed innocent until proven guilty.
