Today, October 5, 2018, the San Luis Obispo County District Attorney’s Office Public Integrity Unit filed felony embezzlement charges against Kallie Johnson (DOB 09/13/1989).  Ms. Johnson was working as the bookkeeper for the San Miguel Community Services District during the period she is charged with embezzlement. The Community Services District provides services for residents of San Miguel including fire protection, water, wastewater, lighting, and solid waste collection.  The District Attorney’s criminal complaint in this matter alleges that Ms. Johnson misappropriated and embezzled public funds between February 1, 2015, and November 30, 2015, while working as an employee of the district.

A violation of Penal Code section 424, misappropriation of public funds, is punishable by imprisonment in the state prison for two, three, or four years, and disqualifies the person from holding any public office in California.

This case was investigated by the Public Integrity Unit of the District Attorney’s Office.  District Attorney Dan Dow created the Public Integrity Unit after assuming office in 2015 under a pledge to increase the public’s trust and confidence in local government through increased accountability.
