Jury finds Grover Beach man guilty of Felony Domestic Violence

After deliberating less than two hours, a San Luis Obispo County jury on Thursday found Michael Anthony Guzman guilty of felony domestic violence causing traumatic injury, misdemeanor child abuse, and resisting a peace officer. The crimes occurred on April 30, 2019 in Grover Beach at an apartment residence. The defendant remains in custody and will return to Court on December 17th.


District Attorney Dan Dow announced today that on Thursday afternoon a jury found Grover Beach resident Michael Anthony Guzman (DOB 02-21-1990) guilty of felony domestic violence causing traumatic injury, misdemeanor child abuse, and resisting a peace officer for his conduct late at night on April 30, 2019.

Intimate partner violence is a serious matter that causes great harm to families and on our society, especially when children are involved,” said District Attorney Dan Dow.  “We are committed to using every resource we have at our disposal to hold offenders accountable in order to protect these vulnerable victims.

The case is scheduled for an additional hearing where the Judge will make findings regarding the defendant’s prior criminal history on December 17, 2019 at 8:30 a.m. in Department 6 of the San Luis Obispo Superior Court, the Honorable Judge Hernaldo Baltodano presiding.  Mr. Guzman faces a maximum term of eleven years and six months in state prison for his convictions due to having a prior conviction for a serious or violent "strike" offense.   

The case was investigated by the Grover Beach Police Department and the District Attorney’s Office Bureau of Investigation.  The case was prosecuted by Deputy District Attorney Jon Kawashima who is assigned to our Domestic Violence Prosecution Unit.
