DA to Host Mandatory Human Trafficking Training for Hospitality Workers

Free Human Trafficking Awareness Training for hotel and motel employers in San Luis Obispo County. The Anti-Human Trafficking Task Force will host this seminar to educate personnel on the requirements of Senate Bill 970. The law requires that all hotel and motel employees receive at least twenty minutes of new human trafficking awareness training by January 1, 2020.
District Attorney Dan Dow announced today that the Anti-Human Trafficking Task Force is hosting Human Trafficking Awareness Training for hotel and motel employers.
Senate Bill 970, Government Code Section 12950.3 to require that hotel and motel employers provide at least twenty minutes of interactive human trafficking awareness training to all employees. Employees must be provided this training by January 1, 2020 and once every two years thereafter. Failure to provide such training may result in a court order to comply with the new law.
The seminar will provide employers with the necessary tools to conduct interactive, employee trainings.
The seminar agenda includes technical education from District Attorney Investigator JT Camp of the San Luis Obispo County District Attorney’s Bureau of Investigations and Senior Deputy Sheriff Rainer Bodine from the San Luis Obispo County Sheriff’s Office. Additionally, the Assistant Director of the Victim Witness Assistance Center of the District Attorney’s Office, Beth Raub, will present Human Trafficking Awareness 101 training. Resources, training manuals and presentations will be provided as a takeaway for employers to use when training their staff.
The seminar will provide guidance on how to identify at-risk individuals and the role of hospitality employees in reporting/responding, the proper procedures for doings so, and how to conduct an employee training.
The seminar will be held at the Christopher G. Money Victim Witness Assistance Center of the San Luis Obispo County District Attorney’s Office at 1035 Palm Street, Room 384, San Luis Obispo, CA 93408.
