Obtain EPA ID
For the generation, storage, and shipping of hazardous waste, you must have a California EPA ID number issued by the California Department of Toxic Substances Control.
If you do not already have an EPA ID assigned to your facility or your EPA ID is currently inactive:
- Visit the California Department of Toxic Substances Control:
- To acquire a California EPA ID number
- Reactivate your existing California EPA ID number
- Obtain a temporary California EPA ID

How to submit your contingency plan
- Electronically at California Environmental Reporting System (CERS)
- Deliver to our office (directly or by mail)
Who is eligible?
Contingency Plans are required for facilities where hazardous waste materials are generated and stored and are regulated by the Environmental Health Services Division.
Is there a charge for this service?
Required annual facility fees cover plan review and compliance assistance to regulated facilities. No fee is required for initial consultation to determine program eligibility. Please refer to our Fee Schedule or contact our office at (805) 781-5544.
When and where is this service offered?
This service is available online at all times. Annual submission of your hazardous waste generator contingency plan is due by March 1st every year.
