Pre-Application Meeting
Pre-application meetings are coordinated by the Department of Planning and Building to assist members of the public with understanding regulations that are applicable to a specific development project, permitting and development processes for a specific development project or for the resolution of a Notice of Violation from the Code Enforcement Division.
What is the process?
Step 1: Apply for a Pre-Application Meeting
Please apply for a pre-applicaiton meeting through the online service PermitSLO.
- To apply online, click Pre-Application Meeting
- Click Apply
- Login by providing your email address and clicking "Next", or "Create an account", if you are a new user.
- Follow the step-by-step instructions.
- In the Description, describe your project as thoroughly as possible, articulate any specific questions you may have, and upload any relevant documents that you would like staff to review before the meeting.

Step 2: Department Review
- Staff will review your pre-application meeting request and determine which planners, other County Departments, and external regulatory agencies should attend the meeting.
Step 3: Pay Invoice
- Staff will email you an invoice, which the applicant pay on the PemitSLO Portal.
Pre-application meeting fees are based on attendance, and are outlined in the Fee Schedule.
Pre-application meetings will not be scheduled until the invoice has been paid in full.
PLEASE NOTE: This is your final opportunity to supplement your application. Staff cannot guarantee that they will be able to review and respond to any information or specific questions that are submitted after the invoice has been paid.
Please note for all Planning and Building applications, after 15 days of non-payment of invoice, the application will be voided and resubmittal will be required.
Step 4: Department Coordination

Staff will select and confirm a meeting date and time with all of the internal attendees.

Staff will email you a proposed date and time for confirmation.
PLEASE NOTE: If you do not confirm your availability timely, the meeting date will not be secured.
Step 5: Attend the Meeting

Staff will take notes during the meeting, and you will receive a written summary of the meeting within 30 days.

If a Land Use Permit application is submitted within one year of the meeting, the Department will credit the L52 fee toward the application fees.
