- Call to Order: The meeting was called to order at 11:10 a.m. – a quorum was present
- Approval of Minutes: The motion was made and seconded to approve the minutes of the December 5, 2023 meeting. Carried unanimously.
- Correspondence: none
- Public Comment: none
- Comments / Information from Agencies:
- Juvenile Court – Gayle Peron
- Annual tour of the Juvenile Hall
- Very impressed with the CVA.
- Court is going well
- County Office of Education – Chris Balogh:
- Loma Vista is back in session tomorrow – currently at 81 students (with 10 referrals) – Court School has been back since January 2
- They will have a second Probation Officer on campus starting tomorrow; she is female and bilingual – both will start by trailing the school buses
- WASC accreditation is this year; SLOCOE’s report is due by June; there will be a visit in September
- 3-year plan for expelled students; one gap is how do you get kids back from Community or Court School to their residential school; their teacher not know the student is not just absent; there is no plan for getting work done at school of residence
- Probation / Juvenile Hall – Robert Reyes:
- 15 youth in facilities – 1 detained by the Court; 4 long-term; 10 in CVA (8 boys + 2 girls)
- BSCC unannounced inspection was passed with flying colors
- Co. Board of Supervisors approved projects at Juvenile Hall – concrete pad for mobile CTE trailers; updated laundry; upgrading bathrooms in old facility (hopefully it will start in 2024-2025)
- Juvenile Justice Realignment sub-committee will be looking at, and possibly updating our current plan
- AB 207 position: as it will not move in time to be voted on, there is no need to look at taking a position at this time.
