Sheriff’s Nipomo Substation
As the community in the southern part of the county continues to experience growth in residential and commercial development, there is a corresponding need to enhance emergency services. Presently, the Oceano Substation is responsible for providing services to this area. However, the volume of service calls has more than doubled in the last 10 years, resulting in extended response times. The new Sheriff’s Nipomo Substation will reduce response times for both routine and emergency calls in the Nipomo area, thereby improving access to law enforcement services for the greater community.
Project Location
The project is situated on two County-owned parcels, located east of the 101 Freeway and directly north of the intersection of Tefft Street and Carrillo Street, within the unincorporated community of Nipomo.
Project Schedule
In September 2024, the County Board of Supervisors approved a Master Architect contract with Omni Design Inc. to begin preparing the bridging documents, which will be incorporated into the Design-Build Request for Proposal to be issued in late Spring/early Summer of 2025. In October 2024, the County issued a Request for Statement of Qualifications to identify prospective Design-Build Entities interested in qualifying for the Design-Build contract for the Sheriff’s Nipomo Substation. The County intends to solicit bids from three pre-qualified design-build firms selected through the October 2024 Request for Statement of Qualifications. Construction is expected to commence in 2027.
