Here are some highlights from today’s Board of Supervisors meeting:

San Luis Obispo County Supervisors today approved Bruce Gibson as new chairperson and John Peschong as vice-chairperson.

The board approved a contract with Community Action Partnership of San Luis Obispo (CAPSLO) to provide services to clients at the Kansas Avenue Safe Parking facility.

Penny Borenstein gave supervisors an update on COVID-19 in our community. She said two more SLO County residents, one in their fifties and one in their sixties have died from COVID-19. That brings SLO County’s total number of COVID-19 deaths to 375. This report comes as 41 SLO County residents are currently hospitalized due to severe COVID-19 illness, including eight in the ICU, and hospitals report severe pressure on emergency departments.

County staff also presented plans to distribute American Rescue Plan Act (ARPA) funds in SLO County for businesses, non-profit agencies, and for child care. Supervisors instructed staff to move forward and report back as they begin to implement the proposed ways of spending ARPA funds. A funding plan was adopted by the Board that included restorations to departmental positions and services that had been cut due to COVID-19.
