The San Luis Obispo Library is partnering with Shower the People, a local non-profit, to offer complimentary showers every Sunday.
The San Luis Obispo Library is partnering with local non-profit organization, Shower the People, to offer complimentary showers each Sunday from 1:30 to 3:30pm. Hot showers will be offered on a first-come, first-served basis. The library is located at 995 Palm Street in downtown San Luis Obispo. This service will be offered at the library through September and possibly beyond.
Shower the People provides a trailer with three private bathrooms, each equipped with a sink, toilet and full shower. Clean towels and washcloths are provided, as well as dispensers of biodegradable soap and shampoo. Basic personal items are also available free of charge. To help with this service, the organization accepts donations of clean underwear, clean socks, razors, combs and toothbrushes.
“At the library, we frequently see persons in need of amenities that are out of reach to some,” said San Luis Obispo Library Manager, Aracelli Astorga. “By partnering with a neighboring community agency, the library is able to provide this service to some of our more vulnerable library users.”
About Shower the People:
Shower the People is an interfaith community based mobile shower program which offers showers to the homeless and critically low-income people.
Our hope is that by providing our homeless access to a warm shower, we will enhance their opportunities to more comfortably integrate into the community.
