What is the process?

For inspection of incoming plant material shipments, the receiver (nursery, landscaper, etc.) will contact one of the County of San Luis Obispo Department of Agriculture/Weights and Measures three offices, or fax shipment documentation to the dedicated Pest Prevention fax line at (805) 781-1035.

Staff will call the Receiver

Staff from the County of San Luis Obispo Department of Agriculture/Weights and Measures will respond to the receiver to inform them of our estimated time of arrival.

Plant Release

Staff from the County of San Luis Obispo Department of Agriculture/Weights and Measures will inspect plant shipments for Glassy-winged Sharpshooter. They will also verify that the required certification accompanies the shipment. If the plants are free from Glassy-winged Sharpshooter, they will be released for sale or planting. 

When and where is this service offered?

This service is available throughout the year during regular business hours except during scheduled holidays.

If the plants meet the various quarantine requirements within California and are shipped with the proper certifications.

Yes. Some of the incoming shipments inspected have been infested. If a shipment is infested, it is rejected and returned to the place of origin.

Try to collect a sample and bring it in to the closest County of San Luis Obispo Department of Agriculture/Weights and Measures Office. If you are unable to collect/or bring in a sample, call the nearest office and we will send someone to your location.
