Jim Erb has retired from the County of San Luis Obispo, effective Saturday, December 15th. Erb was a County employee or elected official for 28 years.

Erb drove many changes at the County, including being the first Auditor-Controller-Treasurer-Tax Collector-Public Administrator after the Board of Supervisors combined the offices in 2013. Erb was also responsible for the creation of the County’s first tax on cannabis businesses, dubbed “The Erb Tax” by the San Luis Obispo County Tribune. The cannabis business tax was approved by over 76% of County voters in June, 2018.

Erb worked to save money for the County and taxpayers through several innovations, including the pre-funding of pensions and the modernization of the County’s accounting and property tax systems. Erb also worked to maintain the highest possible Bond Ratings for the County while also maintaining the highest possible Treasury Pool ratings.

On December 11, 2018, the Board of Supervisors appointed Jim Hamilton to serve the remainder of Erb’s term. Jim Hamilton was elected as the next Auditor-Controller-Treasurer-Tax Collector-Public Administrator in June, 2018, and was due to be sworn in to the office in January, 2019.
