On August 23, 2022, the San Luis Obispo County Board of Supervisors proclaimed August as “Child Support Awareness Month.”

Child Support Awareness Month is an annual nation-wide campaign to raise awareness of the child support program and services it provides. The state-wide theme for 2022 is “One size does NOT fit all”, which shows the importance of receiving individualized help from child support specialists. The resolution stated the San Luis Obispo Department of Child Support Services engaged with 4,276 families and supported 5,870 children in the 2020-2021 fiscal year and included the mission of the Department: “Educating and engaging parents to improve the quality of their children’s lives through economic support”.

Staff from the Department were present to accept the resolution and shared with the Board their outreach efforts, including participating in the Downtown SLO Farmer’s Market and other community events, and maintaining a social media presence. Staff also shared information about the new simplified application that can be completed in minutes, making services more accessible.
