Smoke-Free Environments
There is no safe level of exposure to secondhand smoke. Secondhand smoke comes in many forms, including smoke from tobacco & cannabis, and aerosols from electronic cigarettes (“vaping”). Cities and counties have the authority to go beyond state law to protect people from secondhand smoke exposure.
Smoke-free Outdoor Air
- Comprehensive smokefree air policies protect people from the deadly consequences of secondhand smoke exposure within their communities. Reducing public smoking and vaping also models healthy behavior for our children.
- See which cities in San Luis Obispo County have adopted protective policies against secondhand smoke.
Smoke-free Housing
- People who live in apartments or condominiums (multi-unit housing) are at greater risk of exposure to drifting smoke and aerosol from neighbors. Smoke-free housing policies protect your health, and is a sound investment for landlords and property managers.
- Currently, there are no county-wide laws that regulate smoking inside multi-unit housing. Currently, only the City of Morro Bay has a protective policy restricting smoking in multi-unit housing.
