Templeton to Atascadero Connector Bicycle Trail

Currently, the only direct route for bicyclists to travel back and forth from Atascadero and Templeton is to use the shoulder of the US Highway 101 freeway. This project will enhance public safety by providing a separated path for bicyclists, pedestrians, and non-motorized vehicles.

The project is located between the northern edge of Atascadero at Ferrocarril Road and the intersection of Vineyard Drive and Main Street in Templeton. The trail alignment will follow the western edge of the Salinas River, cross over the Union Pacific Railroad Tracks via a new bicycle/pedestrian bridge, and continue along the edge of Main Street to the intersection of Templeton Road. The project is located in both Supervisorial Districts 2 and 5.

The project’s design is expected to be completed in early 2026 pending project funding, and the construction schedule will depend on the County’s acquisition of necessary right of way or access easements. Tentatively, construction is anticipated to occur in 2027.
