The County of San Luis Obispo awarded funding to 5Cities Homeless Coalition and El Camino Homeless Organization to support homelessness prevention and diversion services for individuals and families.
San Luis Obispo, CA—The County of San Luis Obispo awarded funding to two local organizations to support homelessness prevention and diversion services throughout the region. This funding was approved by the County Board of Supervisors on Tuesday, March 25, and will provide critical assistance to individuals and families at risk of losing their housing.
“One of the most cost-efficient ways to address local homelessness is to prevent people from becoming unhoused in the first place,” said George Solis, Administration Services Manager for the County’s Homeless Services Division. “Prevention programs provide short-term financial assistance, legal aid, and supportive services to help individuals stay in their homes, avoiding the trauma and instability of homelessness.”
Of the half million in County general fund support, $350,000 was awarded to 5Cities Homeless Coalition for prevention services in south and central San Luis Obispo County and $150,000 was awarded to El Camino Homeless Organization, whose efforts will focus on the northern portions of the county.
While each recipient organization will be responsible for designing their own programming, this funding may be used to support activities such as motel vouchers, legal assistance, and financial support for rental payments, security deposits, and utility expenses.
