The County has announced that it is considering interest in the Interim CAO position from people both inside and outside the organization.

The County of San Luis Obispo has begun its search for an interim County Administrative Officer (CAO). The Board of Supervisors will consider interest for the interim CAO from both inside and outside of the organization. Interested candidates can apply online by June 4.

The interim CAO will take over the responsibilities of CAO Dan Buckshi soon after he vacates his position on June 15 to begin a new job as Walnut Creek City Manager in August.

The CAO generally advises, assists, acts as agent for, and is responsible to the Board of Supervisors for the proper and efficient administration of the County; shall enforce ordinances, orders, or regulations as directed by the Board; and does related work as required. The ideal candidate will be able to successfully step into this interim role and effectively assist the Board and County staff in a seamless transition. This interim assignment is anticipated to last approximately 4 to 6 months.

Recruitment for the permanent CAO position will begin sometime this summer.
