The County of San Luis Obispo is putting out a public call for photos to use on its new website, which will go live this summer.

Do you want to contribute to the County’s new website? Submit photos!

To be considered for the launch of the new County website, photos must be submitted by April 28. All submissions must be of a public activity, event, meeting or place in San Luis Obispo County to be eligible for consideration. Additional information on photo uses and copyrights can be found using link above.

“The County’s website is a public resource and we want to give the public an opportunity to contribute to the overall look,” said County Communications Analyst Whitney Szentesi. “There are a lot of great amateur and professional photographers here on the Central Coast and we want to give them a chance to be a part of this new website for years to come.”

For the first time in 10 years, the County is redesigning its website. The new site will be mobile-friendly and make County services more accessible online using the latest in web design and development standards, County officials say. The current County website was first designed in 2006 and, at the time, was a leading public website that won several awards. However, according to results of a recent survey of the website’s users, the site has become difficult for people to navigate, particularly from mobile devices.

Last year, the County’s website had 714,000 visitors who visited the site a total of 1.5 million times. The County has seen a steady increase of people visiting the site using mobile devices over the past three years, but they are 20 percent more likely than desktop users to leave the site after visiting just one page.

“This new website will allow the County to provide high-quality, results-oriented services online that are responsive to community desires and better support different types of devices, including smart phones and tablets,” Szentesi said.

The website’s new system and design will make it easier for people to find the public services and information they need online, including the latest public news, meeting dates, agendas, services and data. Photos selected for the new site will reflect the County’s mission, vision and values as well as the County’s public services. Public photo submission can be made online.
