District Community Project Grants
The County provides grant funding to one-time public projects deemed by the Board of Supervisors to benefit the community. The project could be part of a larger project or program. For example, community project funds may pay for 300 meals for seniors, with additional meals being provided through a different funding source. The County's project would be the 300 meals and one "service unit" would be each meal or each senior that is served.
Nonprofit organizations, cities, school districts, Board recognized advisory bodies and/or commissions, community services districts, or other qualified public agencies, including a County agency or department may apply for a District Community Project Grant. Each applicant must complete an application for community project funds.
Here is a link to the Community Project Grant Application.
Questions regarding these grants should be directed to the County Administrative Office at (805) 781-5011.
Grant applications are accepted year-round. However, grant applications for events with specific dates must be submitted at least 30 days prior to the date of the event. The County will not provide grant funding for an event or project that has already occurred.
What is the process?
Step 1: Apply for Grant Funding
Organizations or groups must fill out and complete a grant application and send it to the Board of Supervisors, 1055 Monterey St., D430, San Luis Obispo, CA 93408. Applications can also be emailed to [email protected].
Step 2: Review Period
Each elected district supervisor will review the grant applications and decide whether or not to allocate grant funding for a project.
Step 3: Approval, Grants Awarded
Each elected district supervisor can allocate $3,000 or less to a district community project requesting grant funding. When a district supervisor approves more than $3,000 in grant funding for one project, the Board of Supervisors is required to approve the grant as part of a public meeting. This is typically done via the Board's consent agenda.
