The Board of Supervisors recently finalized County regulations on the licensing of cannabis businesses at a special session on Monday, November 27th. However, the issue of cannabis business taxation is expected to be taken up in January, 2018.
“My office will be introducing a proposed ordinance that would place the issue of cannabis taxation on the June 2018 ballot. Before we do that, we want the opportunity to take input from the public and other interested parties,” said Erb. The goal, said Erb, is to make sure that the cannabis tax will generate enough revenue to cover the costs of legalized cannabis without reducing funding levels for other vital County services.
In November, 2016, California voters approved the introduction of adult-use cannabis. California voters had previously approved the medical use of cannabis in 1996.
