The County of San Luis Obispo is welcoming the Cayucos Fire Protection District into the County Fire Department (CAL FIRE). With direction from the County Board of Supervisors, the County Fire Chief will be assuming the responsibility for fire protection in the community of Cayucos on December 1, 2018.

The public is invited to attend a Transfer of Command Ceremony at the Cayucos Fire Station, located at 201 Cayucos Drive, Cayucos, CA 93430, on December 1, 2018 at 11 a.m.

As part of the ceremony, we will celebrate the men and women that have faithfully served the community of Cayucos and the Cayucos Fire Protection District for the past 70 years. A commemorative plaque, honoring the proud history of the Cayucos Firefighters, will be permanently attached to the fire station. The Cayucos Fire Protection District, Station 56 will disband and will join the San Luis Obispo County Fire Department as CAL FIRE/San Luis Obispo County Fire Department, Estero Bay Fire Station 16.

“We welcome the Estero Bay Fire Station to the County Fire Department, and we look forward to serving the citizens of Cayucos for the future," said County Fire Chief Scott Jalbert.

The ceremony will be the culmination of several months of collaboration, between the CAL FIRE/San Luis Obispo County Fire Department, the County Board of Supervisors, Local Agency Formation Commission (LAFCO), and the Cayucos Fire Protection District to ensure a safe, efficient, and effective transition of fire protection service in the community of Cayucos.
