A milestone moment unfolded this week with the inauguration of the brand-new Wellness Center at Nipomo High School. Serving as a beacon of support, the center offers a range of crucial services including individual counseling, group counseling, educational initiatives, outreach programs, and a welcoming haven for students seeking immediate assistance.
Funded through a generous $30,000 grant from the San Luis Obispo County Friday Night Live Partnership (SLOFNLP), the Wellness Center represents a significant investment in enhancing school-based wellness initiatives.
The center's unveiling was marked by a lunch-time celebration, inviting students to embrace this valuable addition to their campus. Festivities began with an official ribbon-cutting ceremony on Thursday morning, followed by engaging tours from Friday Night Live students and a resource fair at lunch. Transitions Mental Health Association (TMHA), Lumina, and CAPSLO were among those sharing information and educational material.
Adriana Santana, president of NHS FNL chapter, has expressed how important the space will be for student wellness and wants to ensure more students have access to resources.
"A huge part of Friday Night Live is wellness and mental health,” said Santana. “We are so excited to bring these topics to life through the Wellness Center at Nipomo High." Nipomo Friday Night Live looks forward to hosting fun lunch-time activities to encourage their peers to learn more about stress management, healthy relationships, and mindfulness.
The establishment of the Wellness Center underscores the enduring collaboration between SLOFNLP and Nipomo High School, affirming their shared commitment to youth mental health, well-being, and resilience. Through the integration of the youth development perspective inherent in the Friday Night Live program, students will remain integral in shaping the growth and evolution of the Wellness Center, ensuring its continued relevance and effectiveness in supporting student welfare.
