Pre-Addressing

What is the process?

Step 1: Complete the Pre-Addressing Application Package

  1. Complete a General Application Contact Information Form.
  2. Obtain a copy of the Approved Tentative Map or Recorded Map.

Step 2: Apply Online

Please apply for pre-addressing through the online service PermitSLO.

  2. Click Apply
  3. Follow the step-by-step instructions.

Step 3: Pay Invoice

Planning staff will email the billing contact an invoice. Pay invoice here*.

Once the invoice is paid, the project review timeline will begin.

Please note for all Planning and Building applications, after 15 days of non-payment of invoice, the application will be voided and resubmittal will be required.

Step 4: Review by Planning Staff

Planning staff will review your address application package and request any additional information if necessary to complete the pre-addressing of the parcel map or tract map.

Step 5: Reach Decision

Planning staff contacts applicant and provides a:

  1. Pre-Address Letter,
  2. Pre-Address List, and
  3. Pre-Address Exhibit

Who is eligible?

Anyone in the unincorporated area of the San Luis Obispo County who needs to request addresses for a Parcel Map or Tract Map.

 

Is there a charge for this service?

Please refer to the Department of Planning & Building Fee Schedule for application fees.

When and where is this service offered?

This service is available throughout the year during regular business hours except during scheduled holidays.

An addressable structure means a structure utilized as a residence or to conduct commercial office or business related uses.

No, addresses are only assigned to buildings.

Only a Parcel Map or Tract Map can obtain an address before a construction permit is applied for.

All other addressable structure will be addressed after a construction permit is applied for.

No, electrical meters are not considered to be addressable buildings.

No, guesthouses and workshops are not considered to be addressable buildings.

No, the address for your home occupation will be the same address as your house.

Each of the county's seven incorporated cities are responsible for addresses within their respective city limits. Contact their community development department directly.
