- Pursuant to WIC 633, upon a youth’s appearance before the Court for a detention hearing, each youth and their parent if present shall be informed of:
- The reason the youth was taken into custody:
- The nature of the Juvenile Court proceedings; and
- The right of the youth and his/her parents to be represented by counsel in all proceedings.
- Appointment of Counsel (WIC 634).
- All youth described under WIC 601 and WIC 602, shall have Court appointed counsel unless the youth has already retained counsel or has made an intelligent waiver of his/her right to counsel.
- All licensed attorneys who represent detained youth shall be given access to the Juvenile Hall upon providing proof of identification and California Bar Association membership.
- Access to a Licensed Attorney
- All youth will have access, upon request to licensed attorneys.
- All youth will be allowed confidential consultation with attorneys.
- All youth will be allowed unlimited, postage free legal correspondence and cost free telephone access as appropriate.
