County staff members are bringing services to veterans via a new mobile office.
On June 13, the County Veterans Services Office unveiled its new mobile office in the form of a full-service, solar-powered, electric-bicycle trailer that will service all of San Luis Obispo County.
The mobile office is a stand-alone, all-purpose mobile office stocked with all office equipment, outreach materials, and power supplies necessary to deliver services ranging from the scheduling of appointments to direct claims assistance.
“We believe in innovative solutions for our veterans,” said Veterans Service Officer Christopher Lopez. “Unfortunately, there is a population of veterans in San Luis Obispo County that are not able to make it to our main office or to one of our satellite locations at American Legion Post 50 in Paso Robles or at the Library in Arroyo Grande. This population can include anyone, from those in severe need, such as our homeless veterans, to those that do not know about the existence and purpose of the County Veterans Services Office. This mobile office represents the County’s commitment to providing all local veterans with access to the benefits they earned through their service.”
Veterans Services Office staff custom built the mobile office and are making the “final touches”. It is expected to be fully operational by the end of June.
Outreach staff, including the Veterans Service Officer, will take the mobile office to provide outreach to the homeless. The mobile office will also deliver services at formal outreach events from community based events as the San Luis Obispo Health & Fitness Expo and the Cayucos Fourth of July Festivities to veteran-specific events such as Stand Downs and the Cuesta College Resource Fair for Veterans.
