The Oklahoma Parking Site is set to close May 6, 2024.
San Luis Obispo, CA - The County of San Luis Obispo is preparing to close the Oklahoma Parking Site on May 6, 2024. This new date comes after its original closure date of March 18, 2024 was delayed due to a Temporary Restraining Order (TRO) filed by the San Luis Obispo County Homeless Union earlier this year. The TRO has officially expired as of 3:00 p.m. April 29, 2024, allowing the County to move forward with its intention to close the Oklahoma Parking Site.
The County of San Luis Obispo has entered a settlement with the San Luis County Homeless Union and agreed to a temporary stay of closure that will allow the ten remaining individuals to remain onsite until 5:00 p.m. on Monday May 6, 2024. As part of this settlement, the County of San Luis Obispo has agreed to provide the Union with funds for temporary lodging and/or other assistance for those ten individuals to help them relocate.
According to the Court records, it is stated that "the County has gone to some lengths to repair vehicles and assist individuals with paperwork and welfare and social services so they can relocate." While the original lawsuit - San Luis Obispo County Homeless Union et al v. County of San Luis Obispo et al - is ongoing, the County remains confident that the judicial system will continue to recognize the diligent and compassionate work done by the County's employees and its nonprofit partners.
The County of San Luis Obispo continues to encourage every person still living at the Oklahoma Parking Site to take advantage of the services and resources available to them.
