Salinas River “Live Stream” Has Ended

SAN LUIS OBISPO COUNTY – The County of San Luis Obispo Department of Public Works has confirmed the end of the "live stream" event for the Salinas River.
On Monday, June 24, 2024, officials identified a dry section on Bradley Road, located between Salinas Reservoir and the confluence with the Nacimiento River. Please refer to map for approximate location.
In alignment with the 1973 State Water Resources Control Board (SWRCB) "Live Stream" ruling, the discovery signifies the termination of the "live stream" as of Monday, June 24, 2024. Consequently, all inflow into the Salinas Reservoir will now be released at the dam.
The Salinas River originates from the Salinas Reservoir Dam (Santa Margarita Lake), a key water source for the City of San Luis Obispo. This year’s rainfall generated a natural "live stream" flow in the Salinas River, facilitating water storage in the reservoir between January 22, 2024 and June 24, 2024. The Salinas Reservoir is at 99.9% capacity. With the end of the "live stream," the County will recommence the release of water from the reservoir into the Salinas River, in accordance with the 1973 SWRCB ruling.
