Purpose Establish a standardized process to approve career series promotions

The following steps shall be followed for an eligible employee to receive approval for a career series (5.05) promotion:

  1. Eligible employees shall meet the minimum qualifications for the higher classification.

    3. Deputy Probation Officer https://www.governmentjobs.com/careers/slocountyca/classspecs/1021768?keywords=Deputy%20Probation%20Officer&pagetype=classSpecifications
    4. Juvenile Services Officer https://www.governmentjobs.com/careers/slocountyca/classspecs/1021800?keywords=juvenile%20services%20officer&pagetype=classSpecifications
  2. The employee completes and submits the Career Series Promotion Request form to his/her supervisor.
    1. Career Series Promotion Request form is located on the Intranet.
  3. Upon approval, the employee’s supervisor will forward the request to the officer’s Chief Deputy/Departmental Administrator for review and approval.
  4. Upon approval, the Chief Deputy/Departmental Administrator will forward the request to the Assistant Chief Probation Officer.
  5. The Assistant Chief Probation Officer will review and approve and forward to the Chief Probation Officer.
  6. If approved, the Chief Probation Officer will sign the Career Series Promotion Request form and forward to a Departmental Personnel Technician for processing.
  7. If approval is not received along the chain of command, the employee may appeal to the next level of authority.
  8. Approved forms will be maintained in the employee’s administrative file.
  9. Denied requests will be returned to the employee and not kept in the administrative file.
