- Call to Order: The meeting was called to order at 11:12 a.m. – a quorum was present.
- Approval of Minutes: The motion was made and seconded to approve the minutes of the August 1, 2023 meeting. Carried Unanimously.
- Correspondence: No correspondence.
- Public Comment: No public comment.
- Comments / Information from Agencies:
- Probation / Juvenile Hall: 17 youth - 12 youth on Coastal Valley side. Needing to hire several positions due to promotions; Marguerite Harris will be retiring at the end of the year.
- County Office of Education: Loma Vista – 75 students enrolled. The mobile kitchen is now able to be operational with students. Loma received Gold recognition for their PBIS program implementation; other locations received Silver. They continue to work with Cuesta College on allowing dual enrollment and enrichment programs for their students. Need to hire a Mental Health Therapist and Behavioral Specialist. There is an upcoming training for District Administrators of their SARB process.
- Behavioral Health
- Star Graber is now the Director of Behavioral Health; Frank Warren is the Deputy Director .
- They have 2 vacant therapist positions;
- Currently working a youth services gap analysis; hoping to strengthen Crisis situations
- Partnering with Child Welfare for some training DDP (Didactic Developmental Psychotherapy), and Neuro Feedback as a new treatment modality..
- Youth Substance Treatment is currently working with approximately 50 youth
Presentation: “Child Advocacy Center” – Lisa Fraser, Center for Family Strengthening
- Background on the Center for Family Strengthening and associated entities was shared
- PEI funds provided funds for the Parent Connection
- Promatores – Mental Health interpretation in the clinics for Latinos
- The Link in Atascadero
- The “Child Advocacy Center”
- The Center does not yet have a physical location; that is being worked on by DA Dan Dow.
- There are 2 Spanish-speaking advocates that participate as part of the CAIT team in interviewing children after a SART exam. They walk families through the process, and follow up in a non-dramatic, “user friendly” way.
Committee / Commissioner Reports:
- Children’s Services Network
- There was a lot of discussion on the Brown Act.
- The County is going for a $3.6 Mil Continuum of Care grant through HUD
- The County is applying for a Youth Homelessness grant also through HUD
