Intimate Partner Violence and Sexual Assault
Because domestic violence is a crime involving a partner, spouse, or significant other, a variety of feelings may be experienced, for example: shock, denial, hurt, anger, hopelessness and/or fear.
Many of these same feelings are experienced by a victim who has been raped or sexually abused.
Victim Witness Staff can provide information about the criminal justice system, and the status of a specific case. Referrals to confidential programs and crime prevention information is also available.

Intimate Partner Violence Coalition
Initially convened by the District Attorney in 1994 as the Domestic Violence Task Force, this multi-disciplinary coalition of law enforcement, probation, community non-profits, batterers intervention program providers, and other partners meet bi-monthly to collaborate on intimate partner violence issues. In July 2015, the name Intimate Partner Violence Coalition (IPVC) was adopted. The IPVC is chaired by the District Attorney’s Office along with a co-chair from a community non-profit organization. Among other accomplishments, this coalition was instrumental in the development and implementation of the County's Domestic Violence Death Review Team (DVDRT), which was started in February 2010.
Annually, the Victim Witness Assistance Center assists over 9000 crime victims and family members, and over 1,000 of those were victims of domestic violence or domestic violence-related cases. Many of the victim services are safety-related, including the preparation of criminal protective orders for victims of domestic violence, sexual assault and stalking, safety planning and crime prevention information and victim relocation assistance, and home security systems through the California Victim Compensation Board (VCB).
