Unemployment Rate for San Luis Obispo County decreased in December 2024
The San Luis Obispo County Monthly Employment Report (December 2024) shows a decrease in the civilian labor force, civilian employment, and civilian unemployment.
Unemployment
The California Employment Development Department (EDD) reported the unemployment rate was 3.7% in December 2024, down from the revised 3.9% November 2024 rate. SLO County ranks 4th lowest Unemployment Rate in the state. The unadjusted Unemployment Rate in California was 5.2% and 3.8% in the nation during the same period.
Month-over Job Changes
The Trade, Transportation, and Utilities industry reported the only gains in December, adding 200 jobs.
The Manufacturing, Information, Financial Activities, Professional and Business Services, Private Education and Health Services, and Other Services industries all saw no changes in job loss or growth during the month of December.
The Government industry experienced the greatest month-over loss, losing 1,200 jobs during the report period. The Mining, Logging, and Construction industry lost 200 jobs and Leisure and Hospitality saw a month-over loss of 100 jobs in December.
Total Farm reported a loss of 500 jobs during the month of December.
In the December 2024 reporting period, San Luis Obispo County lost a total of 1,800 jobs.
Year-over Job Changes
The Private Education and Health Services industry experienced the largest year-over change, adding 1,100 jobs. The Mining, Logging and Construction industry reported a year-over-gain of 400 jobs and the Leisure and Hospitality industry gained 300 jobs. The Professional and Business Services and Other Services industries reported a gain of 100 jobs each since this time last year.
The Information, Financial Activities and Trade, Transportation, and Utilities industries had no year-over job losses or gains.
The Government industry had the largest year over loss, losing 400 jobs. Manufacturing experienced year-over losses of 200 jobs.
Total Farm reported no change since last year at this time.
San Luis Obispo County employers reported a year-over gain of 1,400 jobs.
