Based on recent weather advisories from the National Weather Service there is a potential for rainfall totals of 3 to 6 inches between now and Friday. As a result, local flooding can be expected to occur in areas of the County over the next several days.
Areas of concern include those along creeks, streams, low lying underpasses and other areas where water can be expected to accumulate. Of special concern are areas around the Oceano Lagoon or along the Arroyo Grande Creek Flood Control Channel in Oceano. The Oceano Lagoon has limited capacity and the sandbar at the ocean has not breached yet. Forecasted storms will cause storm runoff and drainage to fill the lagoon and could overflow into surrounding residential neighborhoods. Residents surrounding the lagoon should be prepared for flooding during the forecasted storms including potential for necessary evacuation. Please see attached map for location.
Residents in Oceano are requested to review the Safety Information brochure that was sent to them last month as it provides critical information for what to do in the event of flooding in the Oceano area. A copy of the brochure can be viewed by going to the Public Works website at: https://bit.ly/2Ym9B8Q.
All County residents are advised to monitor local weather broadcasts for the most up to the minute information regarding this situation.
