Purpose |
To provide guidelines for employees interested in the work of a Deputy Probation Officer to participate in a ride-along in the field. |

- The Employee Ride-along program is voluntary. Participants will not be compensated in salary, overtime, or compensation time off.
- Employees will be scheduled outside of their regularly approved 40 hour work week or 12-hour shift schedule.
- Employee participants will be assigned an officer(s) to accompany in the community
- Authorization process
- The employee submits a request via an email to their supervisor, specifying their interest in a ride-along or job shadow opportunity.
- The employee’s supervisor will review the Ride-Along Authorization Agreement (“Agreement”) and checklist with the employee. The supervisor and employee will sign the Agreement. The employee will be provided a copy of the checklist.
- The employee’s supervisor will then forward the signed Agreement to the Ride-along SDPO liaison in the Adult, Juvenile, or Custody division.
- The SDPO liaison will schedule and assign the employee participant to an officer for the ride-along.
- The SDPO liaison will forward the signed Agreement to the Department Personnel Technician (DPT) assigned either to Casa Loma or JSC.
- The DPT will place the form in the employee’s administrative file.
