Any honorably retired probation officer, who during the scope of his or her employment, was authorized to and did carry a firearm shall be issued an identification card stamped with “CCW Approved.”
- Upon receiving notice of retirement, a Department Personnel Tech (DPT) will inquire with the officer if they want a retired identification card issued to them.
- If the officer requests an ID card, the DPT will review the administrative file to determine if the officer was authorized to and carried a firearm during their employment.
- The DPT will consult with the Chief Probation Officer for determination if the request is to be denied pursuant to the Penal Code Section 26305.
- The DPT will notify the Supervisor Deputy Probation Officer (SDPO), Professional Standards Unit of the officer’s request to be issued a retired identification card and arming status.
- The SDPO will produce a retired identification card with “CCW Approved” for those probation officers who were authorized to and carried a firearm during their employment.
- The SDPO will issue the retired identification card with “CCW Approved” to the officer on their last day of employment or send via US postal service to their mailing address.
- The SDPO will advise the officer of the 5-year expiration and their responsibility to contact a DPT for a renewal card.
- The SDPO will log all retired IDs with “CCW Approved” issuances, including date of issue and date of expiration, in the Retired Probation Officers CCW Approved File.
