The County of San Luis Obispo Department of Public Works invites the public to learn more about the Los Osos Water Recycling Facility and a proposed rate increase by attending an information session.
The meeting will be held in the Multipurpose Room at Monarch Grove Elementary School on Thursday, January 16, 2020, at 7:00 p.m., and will include information on facility operations and sustainability efforts and the proposed rate increase. See map for meeting location.
The Los Osos Water Recycling Facility began operating in March 2016 and was designed to deliver highly treated wastewater for irrigation and other purposes to promote sustainability within the Los Osos Groundwater Basin. The first recycled water connection for irrigation was celebrated in August 2019 and additional recycled water connections are planned for other high demand water users.
In 2010, a usage rate was approved by the ratepayers based on estimated operational costs and winter water consumption. It has been almost ten years since this rate was updated to reflect current usage and operational costs, making it necessary for the Department of Public Works to propose a five-year phased rate increase effective July 1, 2020. If approved, single family homes with average water use would see a $10.42/month increase in year one, with annual adjustments in subsequent years to build necessary reserves and account for inflation. Implementation of the proposed rate structure is subject to ratepayer approval under the provisions of Proposition 218. Details of the proposed rate structure will be covered at the January 16, 2020 meeting.
