Forty-six County employees donated blood through the 2019 County Employee Blood Drive on May 22, filling 100 percent of the available donation appointments in the one-day drive.

Blood donations are vital to our community's health throughout the year. Simply put, donating blood saves lives. (One pint can save up to three lives—which means employee donors helped save as many as 138 lives in a single day.) Local hospitals give blood to patients every day, not only for emergencies but also as part of cancer therapy, surgery, and treatment for burns or blood disorders.

Employees and other county residents can make a difference by donating blood throughout the year.

Potential donors can search for a convenient blood drive at www.vitalant.org, make an appointment online or stop by Vitalant’s donor center in San Luis Obispo at 4119 Broad Street, Suite 100. Walk-ins are welcome but hours vary, so appointments are strongly suggested. Donors should allow one hour to complete the entire process, though the actual donation takes roughly 10 minutes.

Kudos and heartfelt thanks to all the County employees who gave at this year’s blood drive.
