Summer Meals at the Library

The County is addressing hunger this summer by providing lunches to children who typically rely on school lunches for their midday meal.
This summer public libraries are doing their part to make sure kids get the nutrition they need. More than 16,000 kids in San Luis Obispo County struggle with hunger, and during the summer they lose access to school reduced-lunch programs.
To help address this need the County of SLO Public Libraries has teamed up with the Food Bank Coalition of San Luis Obispo County to serve free meals at its Morro Bay, San Luis Obispo, and Nipomo Libraries. Kids ages 0-18 can stop by one of these library locations and receive a free meal, no ID or personal information required.
Morro Bay Library will be serving lunch, San Luis Obispo Library will be serving breakfast, and Nipomo Library will serve lunch and an afternoon snack. Meals are served by dedicated library staff and volunteers, and contain healthy, fresh ingredients. In previous years around 3,000 meals were served at Library locations.
This program will continue through July as one more way the County of SLO Public Libraries support youth in our community.
