The County of San Luis Obispo Public Library is pleased to announce its 2018 All-Ages Summer Reading Program. This year’s theme is Libraries Rock!
All County of San Luis Obispo Library branches will begin offering summer programs June 1st, and will have a summer full of stories and fun events for everyone.
Children and teens: stop by any County of San Luis Obispo Public Library branch to sign up. Grab a reading log and start tracking to earn prizes from partners like Chipotle, Doc Burnstein’s, Legoland, the SLO Swim Center, Roundtable, and the Foundation for SLO Public Libraries!
Adults: enjoy your summer reading and earn the chance for a grand prize drawing with our Adult Summer Reading Bingo Challenge! We’ve even provided a suggested reading list to help complete the bingo challenge—but rock stars can read anything that fulfills the bingo world tour. Complete a single bingo and head to the library for your prize and ONE ticket for a chance to win a grand prize. If you're a Library Rock Star, then complete a "blackout bingo" of all 25 squares and head to the library for your prize and FOUR chances to win a grand prize! What’s the grand prize? Enter for a chance to win a Roomba Robot Vacuum, Bose Wireless Headphones, or a Kindle Oasis E-reader.
In addition to reading, all County of San Luis Obispo Library branches will host free performances from groups like Valerie Johnson Blues Band, Rafael and Katia Magic Show, Coventry and Kaluza Super Circus, the Roaming Reptiles, and more. Please check with your local library or visit www.slolibrary.org for dates and times, as well as info on more amazing events for all ages.
Why participate? Because it’s fun! The purpose of summer reading programs is to promote literacy skills, provide continued access to books and learning tools, and encourage reading as an enjoyable activity. Children who don’t read during the summer can lose up to two months of learning by the time they return to school; families from low-economic backgrounds are especially at risk. Those who continue to read at least five books when school is out also perform better in reading and math when they return in the fall. Every novel, picture book, comic book, and audiobook counts!
