The County of San Luis Obispo will begin construction to resurface pavement on various roads August 7, 2017.

This project is expected to be completed in September 2017. The work will include placing a chip seal on approximately 54 miles of rural roadway. A chip seal is a layer of asphalt oil imbedded with small gravel to protect the pavement and provide an upgraded driving surface. This project is part of the County’s annual pavement management program and will extend the life of the pavement.

Please view the press release for the limits of work. These limits include:

  • South Paso Robles – Spanish Camp Road and Barley Grain Road area
  • West Paso Robles – Vineyard Road and Chimney Rock Road area
  • Atascadero – El Camino Real south of city limits to Santa Margarita Road
  • Los Osos – Pecho Valley Road
  • Arroyo Grande – Northeast area including Old Oak Park Road, Noyes Road, Corbett Canyon Road, and Huasna Road.

For the safety of the public and the workers, traffic will be subject to detours, lane closures, or reduced to one-way controls with flaggers. Delays are expected to be up to 20 minutes during major operations. The major work is expected to be completed within one day on each street. Notices will be posted on each street at least 72 hours in advance of the work. Motorists are advised to adjust their travel plans in consideration of the delays and consider alternative routes.

The work is required to maintain the pavement integrity to avoid costly repairs in the future, and to provide safe roads. The project is funded by San Luis Obispo County Road Maintenance fund. Northwest Paving, Inc. of Redding, CA has been awarded the contract for $1,531,104 to perform the work.
