The County of San Luis Obispo Department of Public Works announces the commencement of construction for the Underground Utilities District #28, along Los Osos Valley Road between South Bay Boulevard and Los Osos Creek on June 20, 2017.

Formation of the Underground Utilities District was established by the Board of Supervisors and is intended to enhance the local scenic environment through the removal of above ground utility poles, wires and associated overhead structures. Underground installation of wires and facilities for supplying electric, communication and cable television or similar associated service are then constructed within the District boundary limits.

During construction, lane closures will occur but will provide for two lanes eastbound traffic for morning commute and for two lane westbound traffic for evening return. All of the construction work will be performed in phases by PG&E, AT&T, and Charter Communications, with project construction anticipated to be completed in fall of 2017. Funding for the project is provided by the utility companies, in accordance with Tariff Rule 20A and Tariff 32 programs, which creates revenues under PG&E service charges specifically for underground utility projects.
