The County of San Luis Obispo Department of Public Works and the City of Arroyo Grande will be installing an all-way stop controlled intersection at Halcyon Road at The Pike. These changes are being proposed to improve area traffic operations and safety.

This intersection is within the Arroyo Grande City limits, however the northbound approach on Halcyon is within the County’s jurisdiction, requiring cooperation with both agencies. The City approved the Halcyon southbound stop during the February 12, 2019, City Council meeting. The County approved the Halcyon northbound stop during the County Board of Supervisors meeting on April 9, 2019. Please see attached map for location.

Both roadways are major collectors and experience high volumes of traffic daily. The Halcyon Road Complete Streets Plan, developed under the direction of the City of Arroyo Grande, identifies this intersection for an all-way stop. Traffic volumes and collision patterns experienced at this intersection warrant the placement of an all-way stop.

City and County staff will work jointly to install the 2 new stop signs to complete the all-way stop at this intersection. Installation will include advance notifications at the site, to inform drivers of the upcoming changes. The new stop signs on Halcyon Road at The Pike will be placed approximately one week after the posting of notifications.

This action was initiated by staff based on a site review and collaboration between City and County staff.
