Public Works announces the ribbon cutting ceremony for the recently completed Price Canyon Road Phase II Bike Lane Project from Ormonde Road to Highway 227. The event will be held on Thursday, May 17, 2018 at 10:00 a.m. in the parking lot of Trinity Hall on SR 227, just north of the Price Canyon Road/SR 227 intersection (6565 Edna Road, San Luis Obispo).

This 1.8-mile length of Price Canyon Road had been identified as an important project for widening over the past fifteen years under the Regional Transportation Plan prepared by the San Luis Obispo Council of Governments (SLOCOG). The Bicycle Advisory Committee has listed this project as a top priority over the past 20 years and Price Canyon Road has been identified by Caltrans as a key alternate route for South County traffic and provides relief to the congested Highway 101 corridor.

This completed project will improve driver and bicyclist safety by providing full road shoulders within the project area. There are now continuous Class II bike lanes between San Luis Obispo and the Five Cities area, closing a major gap for both recreational and commuter cyclists.

Whitaker Construction Group, Inc. of Paso Robles has completed the work this last winter. The total cost for this project is estimated at $7.8 million.  This project has been funded by grants secured through SLOCOG from the State Transportation Improvement Program, Federal Highway Demonstration Funds, and Federal Congestion Mitigation and Air Quality Program.
